Books I Want to Read

I love reading books of all kinds. Maybe that's one of the reasons I wanted to be a teacher. To be honest with you, I never liked to read when I was younger. I was always jealous of those people that could get lost in books. Now that I have gotten old older I appreciate books and reading a whole lot more. I think teachers are one of the few professions that you need to keep up with on a daily basis. I enjoy reading books for pleasure, but I also really love professional books. If I'm not currently in the middle of a book to push me professionally, I go crazy. I am at that point. So when I found the Books I Want to Read Link Up Party, I knew I had to join.

Professional Books

Teach Like a Champion is a book that I saw this summer over at Cara Carroll's blog. She is one of the many teacher bloggers that I look up to, so when she says it's amazing, I just had to get it. Unfortunately, I have yet to read it. I will make it a point to get to it though!!

The second book is a book that I've been wanting for a VERY long time. I read The Daily 5 almost 4 years ago and I never started it in my classroom. I always knew that if I started the Daily 5 in my room, I wanted to start it with The CAFE Book. This will most likely be my next professional read.

Personal Books

I love Netflix. I couldn't image going a day without watching something on Netflix. A few months ago I found the show, Extreme Couponers. I completely fell in love with the idea. Now I'm not sure I would be an extreme couponer and make my entire house dedicated to a stockpile, but getting a few frequently used items for free wouldn't be too bad. That's why I bought myself this book, Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey. It's all about couponing and on a teacher's salary, that isn't such a bad idea.

I am in love with a lot of things, if you couldn't tell by now with this blog post. There is no amount of words that could explain my love for Harry Potter. That will be my classroom theme one day, I will make sure to that. I have seen all of the movies and read all... 4 books. Yes, that's right, I have only read 4 of the books. They are written beautifully, but I just haven't set aside time to finish the series. I already know what happens so reading them won't be as exciting. I need to finish though because I've been borrowing the set from my sister for the past 10 years. Ooops!!!

Books to Teach

I wish I could give you a list of great books that would teach all sort of skills like how to become a better writer, but unfortunately I don't have any sort of list like that. One day I will have one, but for now here is a book that I just heard of over vacation. It is called The Hundred Dresses. It is a great way to discuss bullying in your classroom. I plan on reading it when we get back to school and see how my students like it. I will do a whole blog post related to it I'm sure.

Wasn't that fun? I thought so. Now it's your turn to list your reading suggestions. Leave a comment telling me what your three, or more, books are for each category. Make sure that if you create a blog post, head on over to Pitner's Potpourri to link up!

  1. Wow! You have a lot of self control to have 3 more HP books just sitting in your house. I drove around with #7 in my car trunk for a couple of days while I was finishing a grad school project. Once I began reading one, it was really hard to get anything else done! I liked the CAFE book too -- but not as much as HP. :)

I want to read that coupon lady's book, too! Thanks for the reminder! I will try to make my own post and link up; great linky for me, the book junkie!

  4. Jennifer,
Thanks for your list. My son and I read all of the Harry Potter books together. It was "our time" together each night sipping hot chocolate and just enjoying the books. We even started a new series (Charlie Bone) when we finished the Harry Potter books. I've never heard of Teach Like a Champion. Thanks for listing it. I'll have to go check it out.

  5. Jennifer,

We should totally do a book study. How fun would it be to run something like that? I love your blog. It's so cute and the picture is great! I am looking forward to going back through your content to catch up. It'll be fun to connect on Twitter. Maybe we could even arrange some guest posts or something?

Also, I think that I will check out the couponing book that you suggested. I find myself rather enthralled by the concept whenever I happen to catch that show on TV.

Glad to find you. TBTS is awesome!

  6. I just found your blog through the Reading Roundup linky. I remember being assigned to read the first HP book for a college literature course and fell in love with the series right then and there. I splurged on hardcover copies because I couldn't wait for the paperback versions to come out :)

The CAFE book is a good read and I refer to it often. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the message in The Hundred Dresses! You have some awesome book choices on your wishlist.

I'm Not a Turkey

With Thanksgiving coming up, I am reminded of all the things that I am thankful for. I am thankful for my wonderful family and friends. I am also thankful for such a sweet bunch of second graders this year. I want to keep this post short and sweet so I will leave you with one of my favorite writing activities, I'm not a turkey. I'm sure there are many variations of this activity, but I just love it so much.  I love the creativity that comes out during this assignment. One of my favorites... I'm not a turkey. A turkey has feathers. I have hands. Can I ask you a question? Do turkeys go to school? No they do not. I am a student. I talk a lot. If you eat me, I can talk in your stomach. If you eat a student, you go to jail. Ohhh so creative!!

Plan With Me Sunday Blog Hop

Welcome to Plan With Me Sundays Blog Hop! This is my first time participating and I am so excited! I have been a planner all of my life and I absolutely love writing things down and organizing my life. This week I wanted to link up with Keeping up with Mrs. Harris and Kreative in Kindergarten because I love looking at other people's planners. Before I share with you my planner(s) I just want to let you know that I have THREE, yes three. One is my personal planner with my every day to do lists, chores, appointments, etc. My second is my business planner. I use this to organize things for work, my TpT store and blog, as well as my Etsy. The third planner is my Erin Condren teaching planner. I will not be sharing that planner this week, but you can learn all about it HERE . I will be sharing two of my planners here with you today. The first is my business planner. It is an Erin Condren planner in the vertical layout. I love this layout because it is broken down into thre

Team Member Gifts

Happy Monday! Today is my last day of summer vacation. I have meetings this week, but I am going in today to have a team meeting with my wonderful kindergarten team. This year I am team lead and I wanted to share my appreciation with some beginning of the year gifts. Teaching all day can be tiring and at the end of the day it's not unusual for some of us to forget to drink water. I have two HUGE water cups that I bring to work every day, but it never hurts to have more. I added vinyl to these mason jar cups for my team mates. Hopefully we will all stay hydrated this school year. The next part of their gift are some goodies from my favorite place... Target!! I just packaged up some of my favorite dollar spot finds and closed it up with some washi tape. This past week I went into my classroom and set everything up. I wanted to be able to relax this week and focus on lesson planning this week. I have been creating custom stickers for my Erin Condren lesson planner and I ha
